August Wrap-up

So August has come to an end! It was a very busy month, both in my actual life, and in my blog life. On the blog, I managed to post (including this post) 26 posts. We had some mini reviews, some full length reviews,  my second ever Music Monday, some teaser and top ten Tuesdays, some Waiting On Wednesdays, a Chat With Me Thursday, First Line Fridays, and a couple Stacking the Shelves.

So on average, I'd say I have had a pretty busy blog month. I posted a little less than once a day, which is pretty good for me. My favourite post this month was definitely my Music Monday for The Ballerinas by Rachel Kapelke Dale, because I don't think I'll ever stop being obsessed with that book. My most popular post was my top ten for books I wish I could read again for the first time, which is pretty surprising to me.

In non book related events this month, I got a job! It happened quicker than I thought it would, because I moved here less than two months ago, but I'm very glad. But also very tired. So I think September will see a significant slow down in posts, but I'll still be reading, so the reviews and other posts will still be coming, just at a little bit slower pace.

I hope everybody had a great August!

July Wrap-Up

So July is coming to a close! It went just as quickly as I hoped it would in my June Wrap-Up.

This month, quite a lot of things have happened that kept me busy. Most notably, I moved about 22 hours away from where I was living, and I've been working on getting settled, which is happening nicely. Slowly, but nicely.

Today, my neighbors sheep managed to get out of the fence and wander into my yard, so even if I'm not quite settled into living here yet, at the very least every day is eventful.

This month on the blog I did get seven posts up, not counting this one, which I feel pretty good about considering I spent the better part of this month without internet. (Speaking of which if you're waiting for an email from me, I didn't forget! I'm still working through all my emails.) In those posts included two reviews, one of The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould, which was a hit for me, and one of Meet Me At The Summit by Mandi Lynn which was unfortunately more of a miss.

Although I didn't post very much this month, I did manage to type out 12 posts to be scheduled for the future, which is a lot for me. I tend to only have about 2-3 posts scheduled at a time usually. So anyway, even though there were not a lot of posts this month, there is definitely a lot to come in the future.

Finally, I kept track of Netgalley Bingo this month! Which started on July 1, and will run until August 31. I'm going to post my progress now and again in my August wrap up post to see if I can manage toget a bingo! If you want to participate you can download the blank bingo card and read the rules  from Netgalley's post Reach Your #NetgalleyGoals with Bingo!

I've been keeping track of the books I've used for each space so I don't accidentally cheat and use the same book for two spaces. I only want to play HONEST games of bingo on this blog, after all. So in the interest of complete transparency, I have used the titles The Ballerinas by Rachel Kapelke-Dale, The Rumor Game by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra and Red Magnolia by Lucy Holden.

I hope July treated you guys well, and happy reading everybody. :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody. I'm pretty sure I speak for everybody when I say that 2020 was a hard year to get through, and I'm glad that it's over. I hope everybody had a fun and safe New Year's Eve, and that 2021 treats you well!

In December, just as I predicted, I didn't post as much as I did in October and November. I only posted 5 times, and only two of those were reviews, but the holidays are always a busy time. I'm surprised I even got two reviews posted at all.

I did surpass my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal. Since I only started reading again in October, my goal was a humble 10 books, but I ended up reading 13, and a total of 3,883 pages.

I set my 2021 goal to 12 books, only a small increase, but I'm hoping I'll be able to get there.

I don't have a lot planned for this month. I should have a review posted for my current read, Everybody Dies Famous in a Small Town by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock, and if I can do that, I will finally be starting Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft.
\
I'm wishing everybody a happy 2021, happy reading everybody!

Hello December + November Wrap Up and Wrap Up Tag

Time has gotten away from me in the last week or so, so what I would usually post as three separate short posts, I'm condensing into one, very slightly longer post.

First things first, we're saying goodbye to November and hello to December. November brought with it fewer posts than October, but that doesn't surprise me because in October I was posting nearly every day, sometimes twice a day. In November, I didn't read enough to create that much content. All in all though, I still managed to post 18 times, which is still a lot for me.

I don't have a lot planned for December, and I can pretty much guarantee that I will be posting significantly less this month. I do have a few things planned though, so far I know that I have one author interview to post, one book blitz (with a giveaway!), and I'm hoping to be finishing with Smoke and Mirrors: The Trueheart by Helene Opocensky and Synclair by Rachel Gold, so if I do that, there will be reviews for those this month.

Last but certainly not least the lovely Pheonix at Books With Wings tagged me in her Wrap-Up Tag. I'm so happy to be tagged in her post again, just because time has gotten away from me in the last week or so doesn't mean that I would miss the opportunity post the tag again!

I would also like to once again tag CM Alsop at YA Lit Reviews for Teens and Libraries and Laura at Blue Eyed Books

To participate, just follow these rules:
  • Link back to the original creator (Pheonix at Books With Wings)
  • Thank the person who tagged you (Thank you so much Pheonix! I love your tags.)
  • Answer all the questions
  • Tag 3 people
  • Enjoy!
Okay, so, here I go with the questions

A book you read this month with a strong bond (friends, family etc.)

I think I'm gonna go with Down World by Rebecca Phelps for this one, the bond that exists at the very beginning between brother and sister is very strong here, and the bonds that form throughout the book are also strong and create a found-family vibe.

A book you read this month in which the characters feasted

I think I'll go with The Life and Deaths of Frankie D. by Colleen Nelson. The feast wasn't huge, but I think it counts, there was a bunch of people gathering. There was food. There was wine. That checks all the boxes for me.

The characters you would love to invite to your house for Thanksgiving (pre-covid)

I would say I definitely want Monsieur Duval from The Life and Deaths of Frankie D. and Max from Smoke and Mirrors: The Trueheart. (which yes, technically I'm still reading, but I started reading it in November so I'm hoping I can still count itt) I think Duval and Max would definitely get in an argument about magic, but that's okay. After all, what's Thanksgiving without a little argument at the dinner table?

Wrap-Up Tag

This tag was created by Phoenix at Books With Wings, and I'm so happy that she thought of me to tag, because not only do I love tags generally, but this one looks like so much fun. To participate in this tag, all you have to do is:

  • Link back to Phoenix,
  • Answer the questions
  • Tag at least five people
  • Enjoy!
So, here I go, answering these questions:

The spookiest book I read this month

I don't think I read many spooky books this month, which was kind of disappointing because it was spooky szn, but I think the spookiest book would have been We Were Restless Things by Cole Nagamatsu, with all it's spooky forests and unexplained deaths.

The most autumn-y book I read this month

I think I'd say The Poppy and the Rose by Ashlee Cowles. It's set mostly in England, and there was a lot of raining, which will always remind me of autumn.

The character you would be most likely to dress up as for Halloween

I know I just talked about this book in the first question but I think I would dress up as "the forest' character from We Were Restless Things.

And that's a wrap on the Wrap-up Tag! I know the rules are to tag five people, but I can only think of two right now due to the time sensitivity, so I would like to tag Laura @ Blue Eyed Books and CM @ YA Lit Reviews for Teens and Lit Reviews for Teens and Libraries

Happy Halloween! October Wrap Up

Today is my favourite day of the year, and the last day of my favourite month, which means it's time for a monthly wrap up.

This month was my first month posting regularly since I accidentally took a three year break from blogging, and I'm pleased to say that I did post a lot this month, in fact, this month I posted 28 posts, which is more than I've ever posted in a single month.

This month featured six book reviews, which I think is fantastic because that means I've read more this month than I have in the passed six years. This month also marked the return of my semi-regular feature, Chat With Me Thursday, where I interviewed author Kathryn Bywaters.

I also started featuring three new weekly posts on my blog, which I am going to keep posting as often as I'm able to. I started Music Monday, a post where I select a few songs that I feel fit the book that I'm reading, and I started posting First Line Friday, a weekly meme that was started over at Abstract Books, and I finally started posting Waiting on Wednesday, a weekly post that I've always meant to participate in, but haven't until this month.

All in all, I was very active on my blog this month, so I'm counting it as a successful first month back. And, in closing, Happy Halloween everybody! I hope everybody had a fun spooky season and that you all are having a fun and safe Halloween!

Hello October!

Well, here we are. My absolute favourite season has arrived.

September didn't turn out to be the best month, but that's okay, because it's a new month, new week, new day, so there's always hope that things can get better.

On the bright side, I managed to get two reviews out last month. Positive ones too!

Apart from the blog, September was very busy and stressful, and so far it doesn't look like October is going to be any less busy or less stressful.

For this month, I only have one review to post so far, but I'm at least pretty sure a review of The Night Circus will be up sometime this month as well.

I'm hoping to read some good books this month and keep the blog updated, hoping for a better month than September overall, but if all else fails, at least Halloween is at the end of the month, right?

I hope September treated you guys well and October treats you even better. :)

Hello September!

Well autumn is soon to fall upon us, and I'm excited! It's absolutely my favourite season, the one I wait all year for, and it is always a particularly productive time for me.

In August, I wasn't very active with posts, and I know that. I have been reading though! The reviews are just yet to be published. I'm happy to say that there are going to be some very good reviews coming in the months ahead, which is nice, because I feel like for a long time, the books I've been reading have been spurring only negative reviews. I'm always happy when I get to publish some positive ones!

Apart from the blog, I've had a busy summer, but it's been fun! My most favourite part was probably when I got a tattoo. My first one! I was really nervous to do it but I'm so glad I did, because I love it!
This summer treated me pretty well, and I hope September has nice things in store for me, and this blog.

Happy Halloween + Monthly Recap

Halloween is my favourite time of the year! I was always the kid that took Halloween very seriously. If everybody in my group of friends wanted to go as angels? I would be a bloody, dead, decaying angel. I don't do cute Halloween. What are your Halloween plans?

I didn't post nearly as much as I wanted to this month. Even the things I did post, I'm not happy with the quality of them. I also only read one book this month *disappointed sigh* I hope November will be better. I do have a review or two lined up so you can at least expect those. I've been trying very hard since about May of this year to always post at least once a month. I'm always disappointed in myself when I don't manage one single post a month. I think that'll probably be my new years revolution. To make sure I stay active in the blogging world.

Anyway, I'm welcoming November with open arms! (Mostly because my birthday is in November and after November is December which means all that Christmas cheer!)

August 2015 recap

Life

Not much has changed since last month. I still have tons of free time and I've been watching a lot of television and movies, A recent favourite would be Faking it. In addition to watching a lot of television shows, I took an 8 hour trip to see my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I don't see them often so the trip is always worth it! Other than that I've been sick and sleeping. In the middle of being sick, I had to attend an eye doctor appointment. I suppose I could have canceled, but I have gotten so sick of squinting. So although it is somewhat painful to admit, I have given into the hipster glasses trend...*sigh*

Blog

Things on my blog this month have been kind of busy this month. I posted 13 times! I was supposed to post more, as I had more planned, but when I went on my trip, the posts I had scheduled didn't go up as planned. I'm sorry to everybody I promised posts that didn't make it up this month! :( Also this month was pretty cool because I've started doing giveaways with Rafflecopter! I was pretty nervous to post the first one since it was my first time using rafflecopter and I'm really not that popular of a blogger so I was worried that I might not have any entries, but, at the end of the contest, I got 11 entries, which is better than nothing amirite? I plan on having more giveaways as time goes on so I'm going to add a "Giveaway" page, so people can easily see if there is a active giveaway going on and all that goo stuff. I should have the page up and ready to go tomorrow. Anyway, this month I posted four reviews:

I posted three Stacking the Shelves:

Stacking the Shelves #2

Stacking the Shelves #3

I posted one Chat With me Thursday:

CWMT #10: Author Interview with Andrea Washington

I posted two Teaser Tuesdays:

Teaser Tuesday #7: The Veiled Truth

Teaser Tuesday #8:Angelfire

I posted one spotlight post:

The Suffering spotlight post+giveaway link

And two book blitzes with Rafflecopter Giveaways!

Lumiere book blitz+Rafflecopter Giveaway (Giveaway closed)

52nd book blitz+Rafflecopter Giveaway (Giveaway open! Closes September 20th 2015)

Books

I read 6 books this month

They were all somewhere between  4 and 5 stars. I already reviewed Blackmail Boyfriend and I will be reviewing the others except for Crank and Privilege sometime in September. Also, upcoming in September is at least one book blitz, and at least two Chat With me Thursdays. So as you can probably tell, September is going to wind down the posts on my blog..

I hope you guys all had a great month!

July 2015 Recap

I haven't done a monthly recap in forever, so I thought maybe I'd do one this month.

Life

I've had tons of free time lately, which I've been spending doing the obvious things, like sleeping reading and watching movies. For example last night I watched  Evil Dead 2 Which was pretty good, and I also watched Pacific Rim. Honestly I don't understand why that movie never took off and got tons of hype and a huge fanbase and action figures and posters because honestly that was a fantastic movie. As you guys can tell. I don't have a very exciting life. But other than watching movies, I also got the cartilage on my ear pierced which I've wanted to get done since I was like, 10 so hey, I accomplished a goal. Yay me.

Blog

I haven't posted that many reviews this month. Only one, actually,

I also posted a Top Ten Tuesday

And two Teaser Tuesdays

I also posted an updated A-Z Bookish Survey

Books

I read three books this month.

Burn Girl by Mandy Mikulencak

BOOST by D.A Paul

Emerge: The Awakening by Melissa A. Craven

All three books were very awesome and the reviews will be posted from early to mid August. Other posts you can expect in August are a spotlight post for The Suffering by Rin Chupeco and I believe a book blitz for the book Lumiere by Jacqueline Garlick. So all in all, July has been a very busy month for this blog as I've been trying to get everything set up and organized for August. It was a very good month and I hope that August 2015 is just as great!
